This is another blog written by another one of my participants this summer. She describes her favorite ministry moment from the week as the following:

"My favorite ministry moment from the week came during a home visit at the Guatemala city Dump.

The Dump is home to thousands of Guatemalans who scavenge through the garbage collected throughout the city and surrounding towns. Each worker makes on average $2/day. Crime and violence are normalities of life. At night it isn't uncommon to hear gunfire in the streets. It is a fatherless place of fear and survival.

I have never experienced such poverty in my life. On one of our prayer visits we visited a woman that had five children. Her husband? An absent alcoholic. Her youngest daughter was 15 and the only one in the family that could go to school. But she has a learning disability and speech impediment which hindered her from succeeding pass the 6th grade. She had already failed 6th grade twice and if she fails again she will be kicked out.

As her mother spoke about her situation you could tell she was embarrassed but she agreed that she too wanted and needed help from God to pass the 6th grade. Her mom was in tears because she never went to school and wasn't able to help her other 4 children go to school. This one daughter was the hope of the family to possibly have a better life.

While we were talking with this family I felt the Lord give me a word to share with the daughter. As I shared, I could tell that she knew it wasn't from me but directly from God. In tears she thanked me and asked if she could hold my hard and take a picture with us. She and her mom said that they were so grateful for the hope and love that we brought.

The Holy Spirit was so strong today and I am humbled and amazed at His desire to use me as a vessel!

Please be praying for all of the families living at the Dump!"
